So, what do we do for cross training? Well, we have several strength training DVDs (p90x included, though that's more the Hare's territory) and we try to work on our core strength and back as well. I have been a dancer for many years, and like to practice on off days for light workout. I'm hoping to start yoga a bit more frequently as well, to keep my joints and ligaments loose (especially my hips).
The foray of a newlywed thrown feet first (in the most expensive and important footwear she's ever owned) into the world of distance running-- in case you are wondering I am the tortoise, and my fantastic husband is the hare (see photos for evidence supporting this conclusion). Tips, experiences, gear reviews, races we've run and mileage are all found here-- to keep us motivated and connected to others like us, and perhaps some of you out there in the blogosphere too.
Our Training Plan
After the Couch to 5k program, we researched and found several promising plans out there. Some were pay to use, and some were free-- in the end we decided on Hal Higdon's Novice 1 modified. We just swap a couple of days around, and we are doing the last 6 weeks of the program doubled (since our first half is 12 weeks away now!). It's been so enjoyable and simple to keep up (missing an entire week is completely fine, and there is wiggle room all over this program), and if you look around on his website, these is tons of information and tips to help you succeed!
