I felt like that last post was almost cranky, and I found this on Hungry Runner Girl, an AMAZING blog that you guys should read too (she has it together much more than I do over here!) Please answer for yourself at the bottom! (even if you aren't a runner yet, or maybe you do another type of activity, just give us some feedback!!)
1. On average how many races do you run a year?
We have only run 2 races so far, since we are still so new, but we have another one (at least) set for this year, plus our first half marathon scheduled in January 2014!
2. Head accessories, things you have to run with: a hat, a visor, sunglasses, chapstick, sunscreen, head band, ponytail, braids, sweat band?
I run with a bandanna almost all the time (its not as harsh as a ponytail every time I walk out the door, and keeps my head cooler than a hat), and sunglasses most of the time. You already know my personal vendetta to get everyone sunscreened up before leaving the house, so of course sunscreen!
3. Where do your workouts come from? A training plan, a coach, whatever you feel like doing that day or what your training partner is doing that day?
We started with the Couch to 5k, and now we are just building up more mileage (using the 10% a week at most rule!) and sort of winging it. With a couple of setbacks we are a bit behind, but that's ok, we will get there!
4. How many miles on average do you put on a pair of shoes?
I know the maximum is 300-400 miles, and my Mizunos are getting close to that 300 mile mark, so we have plans to start breaking in some new ones soon. I have also been told to keep it closer to 300 for road runners, trail runners can get away with a little more mileage before having to say goodbye.
5. Cell phone= do you bring it with you on your run or leave it at home?
The Hare brings his most of the time-- it's currently our GPS/ tracking app too.
6. What was your last running related injury or have you been an injury free runner?
I've been dealing with a mild strain in my left calf muscle. I feared it was a lower hamstring when I felt it, but lucky for me it has been much better with some intensive icing and compression, and a week off. The Hare? Injury free!
7. Is your current running goal about running a farther distance (adding more mileage) or getting faster or BOTH?!?
Currently focusing on adding miles-- however I fully embrace "slow and steady wins (or finishes at least) the race"!
8. Speedwork—-> at the track, on the treadmill, on the roads or never do it?
My last attempt at "speedwork" or crossing the road before I was run over, resulted in the aforementioned strained calf muscle. No speedwork yet, aside from the rare speed up for the last 30 seconds of our run for a healthy "race".
9. Stretching after a run: hit the ground after a run and get stretching, stretch in the shower, stretch once you get to work/school, skip the stretching?
We walk a few minutes back to the house, then stretch after having a drink, but ALWAYS stretch for 10 minutes or so, and always within 20 minutes of finishing.
10. What was your reason(S) for starting to run?
For him it was to gain aerobic health, and to get some of his pent up energy and stress out-- for me it is a personal challenge, something people have told me I "can't" do due to joint issues, and because I have found it therapeutic (salt water cures anything that ails you!). We have found working together has been amazing for our relationship-- and that has driven us to continue as well.
Now it's YOUR turn! So, here's the questions to copy paste and answer in the comments! Answer some or all!
